Do you figure it was a heron, not a cormorant? You might be right though.
I needed to consult Wikipedia before I wrote. Cormorants return in March-April. Ha, so do herons!
It could be either Dude. However if it is, it is lost. I grew up with Herons, it looks like a heron, so for now that is what I will call it. I also have a photo of a stalk here in the snow.
